Welcome

I started this blog in 2010 when there were 11 weeks to go before my next Ironman triathlon. People have found it interesting (mainly my Mum!) so I continue to write.
The Ironman is a long distance triathlon; Swim 2.4miles, Cycle 112miles, Run 26.2 miles (marathon). I have competed in one every year since 2004. I hope this blog can help others see what is involved. I find the process of writing it makes me more accountable and motivates me to do the harder sessions when i'm not feeling like it!

Cycle

Went for ride in Richmond park - ended up doing 95km, fairly aerobic throughout. First time on the road bike for a while and had a few position issues so allen keys out! Basically not happy about right hip. As usual the main task is not to blow everything out of proportion and "control the controllables" as they say.

This ride was with Nick who is training for the etape - some good talking about life and cycling etc,

Finished with an hour at home on the turbo - 4 x 10min at 230W 90rpm on 5mins recovery. Felt good to do this - heart rate was around ironman pace (well a little high). Best thing was the position was much better.

Afternoon was spent cycling again! Up to hyde park with the family - my legs were dead, pedalling the tricycle was SUPER hard, not sure if it was a good thing to do. Did feel very aware of need to help out as Ella had held the fort all morning.

Went past all the setting up for the BUPA 10km tomorrow - not sure what the plan is: in the back of my mind anything around 40mins would be great on these legs. Maybe I should try the run walk approach that I used in the London marathon?
